Joint Pain – Oh My Aching Joints – What Hope is there for Joint Pain Sufferers?

Joint pain or arthralgia can be severely limiting and frustrating for those that suffer it. Just getting out of bed in the morning can become an epic struggle. The constant ache, the swollen and stiff joints and the loss of physical dexterity are each on their own enough to cause frustration – combined they have the power to make you truly miserable. Traditional medicine would have you treat this pain with drug therapy or with surgery. Both of these methods can have negative side effects and be ineffective in solving the underlying cause of the pain in the first place.

Modern chiropractic care is part of an alternative medicine culture that stretches back to the late 1800’s. Chiropractic care is based on the idea that the body is very capable of healing itself in many situations as long as the neural pathways are functioning without interference. The manipulation that forms the basis of chiropractic care is designed to remove stress and pressure on the nerves surrounding the spinal column in order to restore the body’s natural health. When seeing a chiropractor for joint pain, expect a medical practitioner that is going to take a holistic approach to your health.

The Eastern cultures have successfully practiced medicine for centuries that views the body as an interconnected organism which is responsive to outside ‘suggestions’ that can create self-healing. Reflexology, acupuncture and other Eastern practices reflect this philosophy. In general Western medicine is resistant to these holistic practices and prefers to rely on the 'power of science' often able to do nothing but provide a drug for relief of symptoms. A Chiropractor will look at your joint pain differently and will Work with your body to ease the symptoms and eliminate the cause of pain.

When it comes to joint pain you have three basic choices – continue to live with the disruption and discomfort, undergo expensive drug therapy, or try alternative medicine. Consult with your doctor, although he may be skeptical, he is certain to tell you that chiropractic care will do no harm. The West has been very slow to embrace alternative medicine. But we are beginning to see some forms of acceptance, for example, many clinics and treatment centers now offer acupuncture to their patients. When you are looking for the relief of pain, it is reasonable to look anywhere that relief can be found, especially when that relief is offered without the use of drugs.
