Heel Pain - The Body's Amazing Interconnectedness

If you are experiencing heel pain, the cause may be something in your heel, but it might be something happening in a different part of your body altogether. The human body's interconnected nerve system is an electrical marvel. It is a bi-directional pathway that carries messages back and forth throughout your bodily systems. What this means is that anywhere in your body there is a nerve cluster or a nerve ended you might get a pain message - this pain message can be related to the site where the nerve is placed, or it might be from a different site along the pathway.

The fact of the matter is that heel pain can often be related back to problems in the spine. The human spine is made up of a series of bones that are separated by cushioning pads of cartilage known as discs. The role of these discs is to provide proper flexibility of the spine by compressing and releasing as the spine moves. When, for whatever reason a disc becomes stressed it can flatten, inhibiting flexibility and putting pressure on the nerves. When a nerve gets pressured, or pinched, it will send pain signals that can register in the extremities. If you are feeling pain in the heel and have not recently injured or bruised your foot, it is very likely that the pain signal is originating in your back.

Traditional methods of dealing with pain include physical therapy, drug therapy and even surgery, but if these methods do not identify the underlying cause of the heel pain they are nothing but stop-gap measures and your pain is certain to return. More and more doctors are recognising the need for a holistic approach to health care. The more science learns about the human body the more the fact that everything is interconnected becomes apparent.

To deal with pain in the extremities that is caused by injuries and damage in the back, many modern spinal health practitioners are adopting multi-stage healing methods that include elements of traditional chiropractic care, physical therapy, Spinal Decompression Therapy (DTS) and strength building exercises. The DTS therapy will help remove the compression which is pinching the nerve and other therapeutic elements help re-train your body to strengthen spinal cord support and help prevent the pain from returning. The only true way to end pain is to treat the source of that pain. Stop using stop-gap therapies and embrace the holistic approach to ending heel pain.
