Elbow Pain – There is Nothing Funny about Elbow Pain

Elbow pain can be uniquely sharp and debilitating. Although the elbow is often referred to as the funny bone (a pun on the word humerus), there is nothing funny about a persistent pain in the elbow. Human activity requires us to bend and flex the elbow almost constantly. We extend and retract our arms thousands of times each day. We pick thing up. We set things down. We reach to turn keys, to press buttons, to steer the car. Our elbows are critical to all this activity, and when we are in pain any one of these activities can be an agony.

You can get help for this pain. Traditional medicine might prescribe drugs, physical therapy or surgery for elbow pain. All of these methods are solid medical practice, but they may not be the best option for you. Too many times traditional medicine focuses effort on controlling symptoms rather than erasing the cause of the pain. There are many alternative medicine options including acupuncture, ultra sound therapy and visiting a chiropractor. In Westchester County we are lucky to have access to these alternative forms of medicine.

Many kinds of pain in the body can be ascribed to problems affecting the nervous system and the neural pathways that communicate between the brain and the rest of the body. The largest group of nerves in the body are concentrated around the spinal cord, and when these nerves are pressured or pinched the results can lead to muscle or joint pain in other parts of the body. Understanding how the body is interconnected and how something that has gone wrong in one part of the body can have a huge effect on another is the main focus of chiropractic study. Chiropractic care is non-invasive and if it proves unsuccessful you can go forward to the more serious option of surgery for your elbow pain without worry.

Dealing with elbow pain can be frustrating and disruptive to your life. Although we call it the funny bone, there is nothing funny about not being able to use it. In today’s world you have many options for medical care, both traditional and alternative. Before you take the major step of getting surgery for the pain wouldn’t you like to be sure that you have investigated all of the alternatives? Getting back the complete and pain free movement of your elbow will be worth the effort.
